Nottinghamshire Carbon Dioxide Emissions Visualisations

This visualisation below allows you to compare the overall carbon dioxide emissions per capita across each of the districts of Nottinghamshire. You can also see how the different components of this carbon footprint compare in more detail here - household, transport and industrial & commercial. All of the charts can be separately downloaded for presentations, etc. by clicking on the 'download' button at the bottom right. Please acknowledge Climate East Midlands as the source.

Further visualisations are available where you can see how the Nottinghamshire footprint compares to the other counties and cities of the East Midlands, or you can look at the separate footprints of other counties:

Derbyshire     Leicestershire     Lincolnshire      Northamptonshire     Download trend analysis

These visualisations use a dataset from the Department from Energy and Climate Change 'Carbon dioxide emissions within the scope of influence of local authorities' which is updated annually, two years in arrears. Some large sources of emissions like industrial processes and motorways are excluded from the dataset because they are only influenced by national level policies.

Developed by Warren Pearce, University of Nottingham on behalf of Climate East Midlands, September 2012.

Carbon Trust Empower - making energy savings in your office

Empower is designed to empower employees to make energy savings in their office. Through tutorials, virtual tours, a quiz, and other interactive elements, Empower will help raise staff awareness of carbon and cost-saving opportunities, as well as encourage people to make a contribution, and a commitment, to save energy in your office.  You may like to have a go with it yourself before sending it out to all staff.  When you complete the office tour section you can make ‘pledges’ and ‘suggestions to manager’. When you go to the Action Plan there is a “share with my manager” feature. In the e-mail address people can enter any email address to send on their pledges and suggestions. When you send the link out to staff you may like to suggest that they send their pledges and suggestions to one location, e.g. your Environment Team inbox.

Empower  can be downloaded from the Carbon Trust website at the folowing address: www.carbontrust.co.uk/empower

Planning for Hydropower: Planning Advice

Planning for Hydropower: Planning Advice has been produced by AMEC on behalf of Climate East Midlands, as part of the East Midlands Skills Programme, and is jointly funded by the Environment Agency.  It is intended to help local planning authorities, the Environment Agency, developers and other stakeholders better understand the complex planning issues associated with hydropower schemes in the East Midlands Region (and elsewhere in England) and to encourage a more joined-up approach to determining applications for their deployment. The advice applies to England only, as there are differences in planning legislation and guidance in the devolved administrations.

For further information about the project see the following link: http://www.climate-em.org.uk/projects/hydropower/

Embedding adaptation matrices

These matrices were developed as part of the East Midlands Planning to Adapt Project, to help Local Authorities and their partners understand their current level of progress on adaptation to climate change, and set targets for where they would like to get to.

There are three slightly different versions of the embedding adaptation matrix, each aimed at different organisations.

Adaptation Action Plan Template

This template was used in an exercise at the workshop titled "A changing climate for LSPs: risks and opportunities" during Changing Climate Weeks on 9th November 2010.

The template is designed to help organisations go through the steps required to produce an adaptation action plan, by conducting a risk-based assessment of threats and opportunities, and then assigning relevant adaptive measures in response.
