Potential impacts in the East Midlands
Scoping study
In 2000, a scoping study investigated the impacts of climate change on the East Midlands. Summary and Technical Reports were produced. In 2004, the study was updated to take account of the UKCIP02 climate projections. Download the reports here. The 2000 technical report covers the climate change impacts on the following sectors and systems:
- Agriculture and horticulture
- Forestry
- Water resources
- Biodiversity
- Cultural heritage
- Leisure and tourism
- Transport
- Built environment
- Manufacturing, services and retail
- Financial services
- Public health
- Energy
- Coastal zone
The East Midlands Adaptation Resource constitutes an update of the scoping study taking into account UKCP09, and is an attempt to make the information more accessible than the earlier reports. More recent information on the areas covered by the 2000 and 2004 reports can be found in the Sectors and Themes section. Use the menu on the right to navigate.
East Midlands economy
The East Midlands Development Agency (emda) commissioned the Met Office to examine the way weather has influenced the economy of the East Midlands in recent years, and consider how climate change may influence these relationships throughout the 21st century. The report was published in 2010, and is available from the emda Knowledge Bank, an online searchable database of emda's legacy documents. For ease of downloading, the "Climate Change and the East Midlands Economy" 2010 report, and its Appendix, are also available here.
