Vantage Point

This was one project in the Climate East Midlands Skills Programme which was funded by the Department of Communities and Local Government, designed to support the decentralisation of power to the local level by enhancing the skills that local authorities, their leaders and their local communities need to take positive action on climate change.

The broader challenge of reducing carbon emissions from the wider community and involved the application of specialist carbon modelling software across the East Midlands. By applying current and emerging national and EU policy to the East Midlands, this project will undertake regional level scenario planning, disaggregated to sub regional level to:

  • inform the setting of realistic carbon dioxide targets
  • identify opportunities for low carbon infrastructure
  • help councils and their partner organisations to plan to reduce carbon emissions from the East Midlands in an efficient, systematic and collaborative manner.

This will enable councils to work out in detail how to achieve long term carbon reduction targets through a combination of realistic measure.

The detailed reports from the project showing data at regional level and disaggregated to sub-regional level can be found on the Resources page.
