Planning for adaptation
New support for planners
A changing climate for planners is one strand of activity in the Climate East Midlands Skills programme which is funded by the Department for Communities and Local Government. This is designed to support the decentralisation of power to the local level by enhancing the skills that local authroties, their leaders and local communities need to take positive action on climate change.
The UK Climate Impacts Programme (in conjunction with the Town and Country Planning Association) has been commissioned to deliver a support programme on Planning for Adaptation. This series of training events and in-depth support will help planners better understand the implications of developing and implementing long term spatial plans in a changing climate. It will enable planners to build adaptation into robust planning policy and draw upon the latest scientific projections (UK Climate Projections 2009).
