Hydropower

Planning for Hydropower was one strand of activity in the Climate East Midlands Skills Programme in 2011/12 funded by the Department of Communities and Local Government. It was designed to support the decentralisation of power to the local level by enhancing the skills that local authorities and their local communities needed to take positive action on climate change.

This strand of the Skills Programme aimed to improve the planning application and Environment Agency permitting process for hydropower schemes.

The main output from the project was a detailed Hydropower planning advice document published in March 2012.  It is is intended that this Advice will eventually form an annex to the Environment Agency's Good Practice Guidance, which is currently being revised.

The document and other resources from the project, including presentations from events, can be downloaded from this Resources page.
