March 2011 Update: Behavioural Change and Climate Friendly Communities

A regional approach to awareness raising and behavioural change (to reduce emissions) developed over a period of time and was facilitated by the former Regional Assembly (now East Midlands Councils). This followed research and a regional conference held in May 2008. The priority action agreed here was the promotion of current cost electricity meters and a number of local authorities in the East Midlands went on to make meters available through their public libraries.

Further activity was supported by the Energy Saving Trust through a region-wide network of Climate Friendly Communities that stretches from rural communities like Youlgreave in Derbyshire to the inner city, such as The Meadows in Nottingham (July 2010).

Sustainable Hockerton were featured on the front cover of our Wrapper Newsletter in Summer 2010 when they opened their new community wind turbine.

New support for Climate Friendly Communities has since been developed through the Climate East Midlands Skills Programme for 2011/12.
