http://www.climate-em.org.uk/events/item/refit-your-property/
http://www.climate-em.org.uk/events/item/refit-your-property/#When:11:42:28ZBookings are already coming in for a half day workshop being hosted by Nottingham City Council at their main offices in Loxley House, near Nottingham Station on Tuesday 28th May, 10 - 1. It will introduce the RE:FIT framework, first developed in London, designed to improve the energy efficiency (and runing costs) of public sector buildings via an Energy Performance Contracting model and explain the free (but limited) support now available to help with its rollout. This is the first occasion in the East Midlands that RE:FIT and the support for it will be publically discussed.
The most attractive feature of RE:FIT is that energy savings are guaranteed by specialist contractors who will assess your building(s) and install the most cost effective measures to reduce their energy consumption. The RE:FIT framework (which is OJEU compliant) offers you a pre-selected group of specilaist contractors with whom you can undertake a mini-procurement tender. The risk of achieveing the energy savings is then transferred to the selected contractor, via an Energy Performance Contract.
Local Partnerships, a joint venture between HM Treasury and the LGA, will provide some commercial technical support to councils and other public bodies wanting to improve their buildings and reduce their carbon footprint and energy bills.

The event is free, but prior booking is essential to guarantee you a place. Early booking is recommended as interest is expected to be high and places are limited. Please contact Lois Dale at East Midlands Councils to book.

Britain's Biggest Climate Change Campaign
4th to 10th March 2013
Climate Week is a supercharged national campaign to inspire a new wave of action on climate change. It culminates with thousands of events and activities taking place throughout the week of 4 to 10 March 2013, planned by organisations from every part of society. Showcasing real, practical ways to combat climate change, the campaign aims to renew our ambition to create a more sustainable, low-carbon future.
Climate East Midlands is pleased to be supporting Climate Week this year by:
Providing a lunch and learn session for Environment Agency staff at the Trentside Area Office in Nottingham on Tuesday 5th March
Contributing a Building Business Resilience workshop and stand to the Sustain EXPO and conference at the Epic Centre in Lincoln on Thursday 7th March
Supporting Derbyshire Climate Change Partnership's Community conference at the Derbyshire Eco-Centre, Middleton by Wirksworth on Saturday 9th March
Climate Week is backed by every part of society - from the Prime Minister to Paul McCartney, the NHS to the Met Office, the TUC to the CBI, Girlguiding UK to the National Association of Head Teachers. During the first Climate Week in 2012 over 3,000 events were attended by half a million people across the UK.
You can register now for the Climate Week Challenge, which is judged by celebrities and it is completely free to take part. The Climate Week Challenge in 2012 was Britain's biggest ever environmental competition, with over 130,000 people participating in the one day and one-hour versions.
The prestigious Climate Week Awards recognise the most inspirational and impressive actions taking place in every sector of society. The judging panel contains figures such Tony Juniper, Special Advisor to the Prince of Wales Charities International Sustainability Unit, the former President of Ireland, Mary Robinson, and the Bishop of London.
The Climate Week Swap is a new element to the campaign for 2013, highlighting the positive impact that swapping clothes, books, toys, DVDs and other items can have on our environment. Run a swap event in your workplace, with your community group or at home and save resources from going to landfill. All those who register a Swap event will be entered into a draw to win a swap with a celebrity.
There are a number of other elements to the campaign. Bubble and Squeak for Climate Week is encouraging people to make the food that they eat a part of the solution to climate change. They can do this by joining in the call to action of eating a low carbon meal during Climate Week, either by using up leftovers to make Bubble and Squeak or by cooking food made from local ingredients or less meat and dairy. The Climate Week Pub Quiz will be run in hundreds of pubs and workplaces.
Organisations and individuals can get involved right now by starting to plan an event for Climate Week. This provides a unique opportunity to profile your own initiatives and innovations to stakeholders and staff, customers and the community, members and the media. You can also spread the word in advance, so that others find out about Climate Week in time to plan their own activities.

http://www.climate-em.org.uk/events/item/peer-learning-days/#When:09:07:06ZPeer Learning Days in the East Midlands are coming to Leicester on Tuesday 26th February. This is the third such event, following on from successful Peer Learning Days in Northamptonshire and Derby.
The event in Leicester will feature four focus topics:
extending district heating
the challenge of carbon reduction in corporate property
maintaining commitment through a new city-wide programme of action
a site visit to one of Leicester's flooding hot spots and a discussion about engaging the community there in managing the risk.
This is a free event, including lunch, that provides ideal learning opportunities for the transfer of good practice. Booking is essential, via Lois Dale at East Midlands Councils, tel. 01664 502 624 or email: [email protected]

Previous Peer Learning Days
The second event on 14th November was hosted by Derby CIty Council who explained how they tackle the causes and effects of climate change locally in one of the region's large cities.
This second event was the first to showcase action in an urban environment and included looking at how the Council is tackling flood risk and enhancing economic potential from the River Derwent, which flows right through the city centre. Part of the Council's response has been to harness hydroelectric power which it is using in its main corporate building the Council House (currently undergoing major refuirbishment), but the other long term approach is a masterplan designed to enable flood protection to be improved through new developments along the river corridor. This will help to enhance the riverside environment and is preferable to the construction of very high flood walls.
Other highlights included looking at how public housing has been retrofitted with external wall insulation and solar PV to improve thermal efficiency and reduce fuel bills for the most disadvantaged. Further projects to reduce carbon and costs for householders and small businesses were also explained. The City Council is revising its climate change strategy and has recently revived the Derby Climate Alliance in order to do this as a partnership exercise.
This programme started on 10th October in Kettering, hosted by Northamptonshire County Council. Over 20 people from councils across the East Midlands took part and heard first hand about Northamptonshire's approach, successes and challenges. Particularly notable are the strong partnership based way of working, successive accreditation from the Carbon Trust to their Standard, impressive financial savings, embedding resilience principles into mainstream processes (including the new Local Nature Partnership) and an innovative use of commissioning.
The project was devised by the Local Government sector group of Climate East Midlands and is funded by East Midlands Improvement and Efficiency Partnership via the Climate Change Skills Programme. The coordination, event organisation, marketing and facilitation is being supported by Climate East Midlands. The target audience is people from within local government and their local strategic partners who are actively engaged in tackling the local causes and/or consequences of climate change.2012-09-17T09:07:06+00:00
