The Environment Agency are hosting a peer learning day for local authorities in the East Midlands on Friday 10th January 2014 in their Trentside Offices in Nottingham This is part of a peer learning project managed by Climate East Midlands that is designed to help local authority staff to learn first hand about good practice in tackling climate change within different councils and other organisations.
The Agency has a wide ranging role in climate change adaptation and mitigation and the event will explore some of these and examine how they interact with local government responsibilities. Topics that will be covered include an update on the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme, a look at the challenge of managing emissions from landfill sites, the EA's role in planning and their Climate Ready service. The day will also include local site visits to the River Trent Flood Alleviation scheme and Daybrook Green Streets, a project that has incorporated rain gardens into residential streets to reduce run off into the Daybrook.
This project is supported by East Midlands Improvement & Efficiency Partnership and the Environment Agency (Midlands). Previous events have been hosted by Northamptonshire County Council, Derby City Council, Leicester City Council, Blaby District Council, Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council and North West Leicestershire District Council.
