On the Agenda

This event explored what a low carbon school means in practice and why it's a desirable goal from a financial, educational and environmental perpective. Talks included 'Making it happen' and 'Keeping the momentum going' in both primary and secondary schools, 'Approaching new build', 'Improving old school buildings', 'Using Technologies' and 'Financing energy projects'. Schools from across the region shared their experiences, including pioneers like Silverhill Primary, Derby and Edwalton Primary, Nottinghamshire.

Speakers

The chair for the event was Ed Horgan, director at Briar Associates (a leading energy consultancy) who has worked with East Midlands schools on the SCoRE project. The keynote speaker was Yvonne Baker, Chief Executive, National Science Learning Centre and National STEM Centre. Panellists included Brian Owens, Headteacher at Edwalton Primary School in Nottinghamshire and Oliver Savage, from Leicestershire County Council's Carbon Action Team (who first proposed the idea for the event).
