Health & Wellbeing in a changing climate
Home Events Health & Wellbeing in a changing climate
Local Health and Wellbeing in a changing climate (building preparedness for people, services and communities) is the title of a forthcoming workshop event on Friday 1st March at Nottingham Conference Centre for members of Health and Wellbeing Boards and those who support them across the health and social care system. Hosted by Climate East Midlands, this is one of a national programme of similar events across the country that have been organised by Climate
Whilst the changing climate is projected to bring some welcome health benefits, including a reduction in cold-related deaths in winter months, the increased frequency of extreme weather events that is already being experienced will bring new challenges. The ageing population will also mean that many people will become more vulnerable to extremes of heat, rain and cold in the future – a potential issue for Joint Strategic Needs Assessments. Preparing and building resilience now will save costs, protect lives and help deliver health outcomes. In addition, action will help to reduce inequalities by protecting vulnerable groups who are disproportionately affected by climate impacts.
Speakers include Will Day, Sustainability Advisor to PwC and Dr David Pencheon OBE, Director of the NHS Sustainable Development Unit.
Also now confirmed are Professor Virgina Murray, Head of Extreme Events and Health Protection at the Health Protection Agency and Dr Sarah Lindley from the University of Manchester, who is conducting research on behalf of the Joseph Rowntree Foundation into climate change and social justice.
Facilitated sessions will help to draw out the issues, debate the evidence and begin to develop proportionate and constructive joint outcomes.
When: 1st March 2013, 10am - 4pm
Where: Nottingham Conference Centre, Burton Street, NG1 4BU
