Communities Conference Derbyshire 9th March 2013
Home Events Communities Conference Derbyshire 9th March 2013
Climate East Midlands is helping stage a Climate Change Conference for communities on Saturday 9th March, at the recently built Derbyshire Eco-Centre - a BREEAM Excellent rated building for the County Council's Community Education service, in Middleton-by-Wirksworth. This is part of the support Climate East Midlands provides to local authorities and their climate change partnerships. There are a number of active communities in the county and three of them won small grants from Climate East Midlands to carry out climate related projects in 2011/12 (Sustainable Bakewell CIC, Sustainable Hayfield and Transition Chesterfield). Their projects were documented in a series of case studies. This Community Skills project also concluded in March 2012 with a 'Power to the People' conference event in Langley Mill, hosted by Groundwork Derby and Derbyshire. See the materials from this event here.
The support includes funding from Climate East Midlands' Peer Learning project (courtesy of the Environment Agency and East Midlands Improvement and Efficiency Partnership), which aims to help organisations and individuals learn from one another's experiences in tackling the causes and consequences of climate change. Climate East Midlands will also be providing an exhibition stand, running three Resilient Communities workshops and providing a speaker for a panel discussion.
